The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting. He especially welcomed Mrs Llinos Jones saying that it was really nice to see her back. He stated that the town had been troubled with floods three times in the last months, which was obviously of concern. He said that Mr Mark Waddington, who was on the agenda to have attended this meeting, had left his post and a new person would hopefully soon be appointed who would attend a future meeting.

Police Matters. PC Robert Davies attended the meeting. He reported that rural crime has gone quiet but has not disappeared. There are no major problems to report. He advised members of the change in working hours which will come into effect soon and may affect his ability to attend further Council meetings. The Chairman said that is is hoped that this will not be the case since the input given at such meetings is invaluable. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Superintendent to inform him of this.

With reference to the problem of parking at Llidiart y Parc Mr Elfed Griffith gave PC Davies a copy of a letter received stating that The National Assembly for Wales need the agreement of the North Wales Police and PC Davies promised to pass this on to the Traffic Management Officer.

Mr Ken Ewing, Head of Public Protection DCC.

Mr Ewing attended the meeting and showed members the plans drawn up for extensive work which is to be carried out on the public conveniences in town. This was most welcome since there have been problems there for some time. He said that he had been successful in obtaining funding to carry out major works. The work will be carried out between Easter and the start of the summer season. The Chairman informed Mr Ewing that in fact a letter had been received at this meeting from a lady in Liverpool complaining about the state of the conveniences.

With reference to the problem of dog fouling the Chairman read a letter which had been received from Glyndyfrdwy School saying that Ffordd Fach is now considered a serious health hazard. Mr Ewing was given a copy of the letter and he promised to look into this as a matter of urgency.

He will also look into the problems on the square caused by pigeons.

A letter was received requesting support from Menter Iaith Dinbych-Conwy in their application to the Lottery Community fund for the purchase of translating equipment - the Clerk was instructed to confirm members’ support.

Register of Members Interests relating to Declaration of Acceptance of Office Local members completed the relevant paperwork.

Any other business. Mr Mark Thomas stated that the Co-op are interested in opening a supermarket in Corwen and the Clerk was instructed to invite him to attend the next meeting.

He also stated that he has received several complaints regarding the fact that the swings have not been repaired at the War Memorial Park. Mr Robert Bowler stated that a company has been instructed to carry out the necessary work. A general discussion took place and it was decided to request copies of the last two years’ Audited Accounts before any further payments of grant is made. The Committee should also be informed of the representatives on their Committee from the Community Council, namely Mr Deryk Hughes and Mrs Nia Bently who should be notified of any meetings to be held.

Mr Hywel Edwards reported that the stone steps near Bryntirion, Glyndyfrdwy are flaking and need attention.

Mr Geraint Lloyd said that he would hope to see an improvement with regard to the problem of dog fouling at Ffordd Fach soon. With reference to the wall between the bridge and Coed y Glyn the Clerk was instructed to find out from the County who owns the wall since it needs repairing. He said that the road sweeper is needed on the back road, and that there is water crossing the road near Dee Cottage.

Mr Brynle Hughes reported that the bus shelter had been hit once again, this time by a lorry. The quote supplied for carrying out the repairs was accepted and the Clerk will forward everything to the Insurance company.

A letter was received requesting a donation from Gwyl Ddrama Corwen and it was unanimously agreed to donate £200.

Application for funding from Nightingale House - it was unanimously agreed to donate £50. Application for funding from Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod - it was unanimously agreed to donate the same as previous year, £75.

A letter of thanks was received from Llangollen Railway Trust Ltd. for recent donation made towards the Berwyn viaduct appeal.

Mr Elfed Griffiths reported that Mr Jeremy Knibbs has been appointed as a replacement for Mr Andrew Waite, and stated that another representative is necessary to attend meetings of the Small Towns and Villages Initiative Dee Valley Committee - the Chairman was nominated and he agreed to attend. The Clerk to send details to Sue Haygarth of Denbighshire County Council.
